2011 WTCC CALENDAR TO BE APPROVED IN SEPTEMBER

24 Jul 2010

The calendars for the 2011 season will be submitted to the FIA World Motor Sport Council on September 10th. Among all the other FIA championships, the WTCC has prepared a draft that includes twelve events.
“Most of them are traditional venues for our championship, altough Suzuka will replace Okayama for the Race of Japan,”
promoter Marcello Lotti said. “However, we are pleased to announce that we have included in the draft two countries that the WTCC never visited before: Argentina and Mainland China. These are strategic additions for us, not only because they open new and interesting markets to our manufacturers, but also because the events in Buenos Aires and at the Guangdong International Circuit will be organised together with the respective national Touring Car Championships: TC2000 and CTCC. And this fits prefectly our aim to establish close relationships between the FIA World championship and the national ones.”
You mentioned the other WTCC traditional venues. Are they all confirmed already? “All but Marrakech. We wish to include the Race of Morocco in the calendar again. And after the meetings held at the FIA to investigate what happened earlier this year, Morocco’s National Sporting Authority has drafted a serious plan to prevent this from happening again. However, before going any further we need to receive a written confirmation from the event promoter,” concluded Lotti.
